Here in the United States, January 12th is National Hot Tea Day. I chuckle when I see that. Why, you ask. To me, every day is hot tea day. Loads of people reach for a cup of coffee in the morning. Not me. Hot tea is, definitely, my comfort beverage of choice. Some may say I’m obsessed with tea, possibly addicted to it (though I have gone some days without having a cup of tea). Family and friends have no problem finding gifts for me; they can’t go wrong with tea and/or yarn. On several occasions, my parents have given me both, which is extra happy mail. My husband has gifted me two teapots in the time we’ve been together. Couple tea with knitting; I’d call that one wonderfully cozy day.
Most Saturdays have become my day of rest, which means, a full day of knitting. What do I have while knitting? A very large mug or pot of tea.
It was out of my love of tea that I created the teapot cozy set.
I scoured Pinterest for the perfect knit pattern for a teapot cozy, one that fit my style. Did I find one? Nope. Therefore, in true Faith fashion, I got to work on creating my own pattern. I had the idea, “wouldn’t it look cute to have a stocking hat for your teapot?”
One thing I hadn’t made at that time was a hat, which intimidated me somewhat. However, though I thought stocking hat for the teapot, I knew I wanted it to only resemble a stocking hat. So, I didn’t have to make an actual hat. With my trusty measuring tape, I pulled out my standard, four cup size teapot and got to work on figuring out the math. To add an extra dose of coziness, I planned to use the seed stitch, which has become one of my favorite stitches, with its fun texture. Then, to add to the cuteness, a bit of ribbon to sinch the top.
And of course, what’s a good teapot cozy without some coasters, or as I like to call them mug rugs, to match.
Once complete, the true test – will it keep the teapot warm? So far, so good for me.
The teapot cozy set was complete. But what do I do about the other teapots that are not the standard, four cup size? A simple hot pad/potholder might work…
